Mérida sits in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula, and in late afternoon the light there does something extraordinary - warm, golden, and thick with atmosphere. Hacienda Tekik de Regil, just thirty minutes outside the city, amplifies all of that. One of the oldest haciendas in the state, dating back to the 16th century, it carries the kind of quiet grandeur that makes every corner of it feel significant. Hand-painted murals, ancient stone archways, a private Catholic church, the original casa de máquinas from its henequen production days - it holds history in a way that feels alive rather than preserved. Sofia and Ben's wedding had the easy, unhurried rhythm that the best destination celebrations take on. Guests had come from far away, the day had been looked forward to for a long time, and when it arrived everyone seemed to simply settle into it. There was warmth everywhere - in the light, in the food, in the way people kept finding each other between the ceremony and the reception. The kind of day where the dancing starts earlier than planned and nobody minds. We moved through the hacienda alongside them - from the quiet of the morning preparations in the main house, through the ceremony in the chapel, out into the garden as the Mexican sun softened and the cocktail hour filled the old factory space with laughter and mezcal. By the time the reception was fully underway, the heat of the day had given way to a warm evening breeze and the kind of light that photographers dream about. Tekik de Regil is one of those venues that does a lot of the work for you - but Sofia and Ben's day was something more than a beautiful setting. It was generous and relaxed and genuinely fun, filled with people who were happy to be there together.
